Importance of the correct materials
One of the most fun parts of my work is selecting the materials, in most cases, paper that allows me to make the best of the images. Experimenting with different manufacturers, textures, process lets me see how impactful an image may be. A simple change of one paper in overall image may attract more attention to that part of the image. Or cause it to recede, giving it less prominence.
Currently I have been playing with one of the Wyeth series images and printing on different mediums to see what best conveys the idea in my mind. I started by printing each on plain paper and glossy photo paper to lay out a template for the work. Adjusting overlays and locations. THis lead me to see that those I had printed on the glossy paper were calling too much attention to themselves as they are minor background pieces.
Now I am reassessing the layout, changing which images are to be printed on which paper and continuing the evolution. ….. More to come.
